Classes - Fire Emblem Engage Guide

To promote your units to an Advanced class and beyond, you must first master the weapon of that class. Some classes require you to be proficient in one weapon while others require multiple weapons. For example, to become a Berserker, you’ll only need proficiency in axes. In order to promote to the General (Sword), you wll need proficiency in Sword/Lance/Axe up to level 10.

To gain weapon proficiency, raise the bond between you and the appropriate Emblem. You can do this by equipping the ring and raising the bond levels naturally in battle, or at the cost of bond fragments at The Arena. Bond fragments a resource gained by completing a variety of tasks and socializing with allies. You can check the Bulletin Board in the Cafe to turn in Achievements for Bond Fragments.

For example, once the bond between you and Emblem Celica <meta /> reaches level eight, you’ll receive magic (tome) proficiency. Check what proficiencies you can gain from your Emblems in the Ring Reference section of the Reference menu while at the Somniel.

To advance beyond the base (default) classes you begin with, you will first need to acqcuire the appropriate seals. To promote from a base class to an advanced class, you need a Master seal, which can be gained through battle or purchased at the Item Shop in the Somniel Plaza. To switch between an advanced class to a different advanced class or a base class to a different base class, you need a Second seal, which is also gained through battle or purchased at the Item Shop. To change classes as a special class, you need a Second seal.

Every class is assigned a particular Type. Each Type has a special bonus.

  • Dragon: Engage skills and attacks always receive a bonus effect.
  • Backup: User can offer Chain Attacks if an ally attacks an enemy that the user can target from their current position.
  • Covert: Doubles user’s terrain bonuses.
  • Qi Adept: Can use Chain Guard to nullify damage from adjacent allies at the cost of up to 20% of their HP. Only usable at full HP.
  • Mystical: Ignores foe’s terrain bonuses when using magic.
  • Armor: Ignores Weapon Triangle Breack mechanic.
  • Cavalry: High Movement.
  • Flier: Unhindered by terrain.

When you have met all of the prerequisites to change classes, return to the Somniel and open your inventory. Click on your character and select the “Change Class” option. Scroll through the class options until you find your desired class, and proceed with the transformation. You’ll only be asked once, so make sure that you’ve selected the right class!
