Born May 21, 1984, in Topeka, Kansas, Woodland is the son of Dan and Linda Woodland.
He completed Shawnee Heights High School in the suburb of Tecumseh and proceeded to Washburn University in Topeka on a basketball scholarship, but left after his freshman year to attend the University of Kansas in Lawrence on a golf scholarship.
